Hi, time ago people asked which software is good for make mods, I make here a list of the software I use or used in time.
3D SOFTWARE
METASEQUOIA 3D:
Simple, easy to learn, my first 3d software, With the latest updates I found it even more easy to use, like the direction is taken this software, still it needs a bit more work in the uvmapping but, thats not a problem with an external tool which I'll describe at bottom.
MARBLECLAY 3D:
The freeware alternative to Metasequoia 3D, sadly is outdate, I tested time ago, it has more tools than metaseq itself it can be a bit confuse but is easy to use, freeware (need to send an email to author for keygen, it was very fast in my case) and moves many 3d formats, including .mqo
BLENDER:
Time ago when I tried this software it was a pain in the butt for me, but actually is freaking awesome, can feel the optimization but powerful with a lot of tools which can be modified to yours likings, the tools I like more are two for now, sculpting and a easy to use but effective tool for retopology: bsurface. In my case, I recommend this tool highly: powerful, in constant development, open source, and it used a lot for many people for modding in a big list of games.
ROADKILL UV:
This is the tool I've talking about, tiny size yet powerful and simple to use, can use it standalone or as a plugin for 3D software like 3DSMAX, MAYA. I must tell, time ago tried a lot of uvmapping software, even with pay tools never found one as this piece of heaven, recommend to keep a copy of this tool in your drive.
MESHLAB:
If you like make yours mods with sculpting software, this is yours tool for get a quality lowpoly version of your work. OPEN SOURCE.
MESHIO:
If you have models made with metasequoia 3D but you feel you can make the next step to blender or for any other reason you need to use this one, you have to choice: save as obj or dae, or download this plugin which allow import-export mqo and pmd files.
2D SOFTWARE:
PHOTOSHOP CS6:
The most knowing tool for make textures. I liked this version, feel it more smooth than the others.
GIMP PAINTER:
A "modded" version of GIMP, used a bit for make textures and some 2D work, It's very good and versatile, but I found a little problem with it main tool: g-pen ink, I just can't use them because not matter if you don't press buttons, they keep painting.
We must keep an eye in GIMP because maybe this years it comes a very new version.
